Description

Description

In February 2024, a cholera epidemic struck the Comoros, prompting the Comorian Red Crescent (CRCO) to deploy emergency health, WASH, protection, gender, inclusion, and community engagement programs. Despite initial challenges in being recognized as a key RCCE actor, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) supported CRCO in strengthening its position. CRCO developed a comprehensive RCCE strategy, conducted dialogue and advocacy efforts, and implemented various RCCE activities on Anjouan Island. These efforts resulted in CRCO's recognition as an essential partner, improved collaboration with local authorities and humanitarian organizations, and a positive impact on community health by reducing cholera transmission. This success underscores the importance of integrating community engagement and humanitarian diplomacy in crisis response.
